Ideally situated just 90 minutes by car from Geneva, Champéry is both a postcard-perfect alpine village and a modern ski and bike resort. One of 12 resort villages in the vast Portes du Soleil recreational area, Champéry is the ideal year-round destination for hikers, bikers, skiers and epicureans alike.
Did someone say paradise? Yes, 'Grand Paradis', an appropriate name for the idyllic setting of the cross-country ski trail on the outskirts of Champéry. Others, given the bracing wintertime temperatures of Grand Paradis, say that it is closer to Canada
Champéry’s cross-country ski track is located just 2 kilometres past the village, and is easily accessible by car or by free shuttle-bus. The 5 kilometre circuit offers classic or skating tracks and approximately 100 metres of altitude difference. The track is illuminated for night skiing every night until 9 pm.
Grand Paradis is arguably a place like none other, a magical winter microclimate where the snow crunches underfoot and everything from the forest to the fenceposts to the rocks along the river sports a spiky winter coat of sparkling frost crystals.
Just minutes from the centre of Champéry (free parking in Gd. Paradis or shuttle bus from the village), the cross-country trail is perfect for beginners and experts alike. The 5 km circuit has an elevation change of 100 m and caters to classic and skating skiers.
Every evening, a 3 km section of the trail is illuminated until 9 pm. As you glide silently through pools of lamplight on new-fallen snow, we're sure you'll agree that this might well be paradise after all...
A cross-country ski ticket is obligatory and may be purchased at the offices of Champéry Tourisme and at the Grand-Paradis chairlift during opening hours.
